Kirk Braunius started in the actuarial and insurance field in 1985. His career includes time with Coopers & Lybrand, Kwasha Lipton, and Prudential Reinsurance. His experience includes the following:
- Assist state regulatory authorities with financial examinations of approximately 100 health insurers, as well as numerous property & casualty insurers. Includes entities of all sizes, including a multi-state exam that included over 20 companies with actuarial reserves of over $5 billion.
- Identify exceptions, and propose examination recommendations related to carried reserve amounts, regulatory compliance issues, and internal controls over the reserving process.
- Experienced in the implementation of risk-focused financial examinations of insurance companies.
- Assist with issues related to the Affordable Care Act for a health insurer in receivership.
- Litigation consulting related to troubled health insurance companies in receivership. Responsibilities include analyzing legal liability of outside actuarial consultants.
- Conduct analyses of self-insured health plan costs.
- Complete reserve analyses for self-insured health plans and health insurers.
- Property and casualty reserve analyses for insurance companies and self-insured entities.
- Review property and casualty rate filings and health rate filings for state regulatory authorities. Make recommendations to regulators regarding the validity of requested rate changes.
- Implement funding studies for captive insurers.
