Sue Buehler has 13 years of casualty actuarial experience. She graduated summa cum laude in mathematics from the St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. She received a Ph. D. in mathematics in 1994, and an M.S. in statistics in 1998, both from the University of Texas at Austin. Sue is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. Before joining Merlinos & Associates in the spring of 2004, she was an Actuarial Analyst for United Services Auto Association (USAA) in San Antonio, Texas for six years.
EXPERIENCE:
- Review of rate filings and expert testimony for state insurance departments.
- Rate and reserve analysis for various insurance entities related to auto, property, medical malpractice, and workers’ compensation.
- Performing financial examinations of property and casualty insurance companies (some of which have been performed in the TeamMate environment).
- Performing risk transfer analysis.
- Assistance with actuarial reports and statements of opinion for various insurance entities.
- Work prior to joining Merlinos & Associates included design of competitive premium comparison software for preferred and standard auto (work on this project, with a budget exceeding one million dollars, included creating detailed business requirements and testing strategies, and researching competitors’ rating and underwriting practices).
- Perform numerous personal auto state rate filings for preferred and standard business.
- Perform analysis of unallocated loss adjustment expenses for personal auto and selected countrywide ULAE expense loads used in state rate reviews.
